Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Guitar Tutorial Lesson (GUITAR ...

HOW TO PLAY ON GUITAR - CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE - by Queen from their 1980 album The Game

Performance video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dq1mkKGBW2Y

This video looks at acoustic guitar parts as well as the guitar solo and the fills. Contains on screen guitar tab.

The song kicks off with a D - Dsus4 chord progression before moving to D  G  C  D progression

As reported by Freddie Mercury in Melody Maker, 2 May 1981, he composed "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" on the guitar in just five to ten minutes.

'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' took me five or ten minutes. I did that on the guitar, which I can't play for nuts, and in one way it was quite a good thing because I was restricted, knowing only a few chords. It's a good discipline because I simply had to write within a small framework. I couldn't work through too many chords and because of that restriction I wrote a good song, I think.

— Freddie Mercury

The song was written by Mercury as a tribute to Elvis Presley.[13] Roger Taylor added in an interview that Mercury wrote it in just 10 minutes while lounging in a bath in the Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich during one of their extensive Munich recording sessions.[14] Mercury took it to the studio shortly after writing it and presented it to Taylor and John Deacon.[7][15] The three of them, with their then new producer Reinhold Mack, recorded it at Musicland Studios in Munich. The entire song was reportedly recorded in less than half an hour (although Mack says it was six hours).[16] Having written "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" on guitar and played an acoustic rhythm guitar on the record, for the first time ever Mercury played guitar in concerts, for example at Live Aid at Wembley Stadium, London in 1985

Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Guitar Cover with Guitar Tablature

"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" is a song by the rock band Queen. Written by Freddie Mercury in 1979, the track is featured on their 1980 album The Game, and also appears on the band's compilation album, Greatest Hits. The song peaked at number two in the UK Singles Chart in 1979, and became the group's first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. in 1979, remaining there for four consecutive weeks; it would be the start of Queen's popularity in America.[4][5] It topped the Australian ARIA Charts for seven weeks.[6]

Having composed "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" on guitar, Mercury played rhythm guitar while performing the song live, which was the first time he played guitar in concert.[7] Queen played the song live between 1979 and 1986, and a live performance of the song is recorded in the albums Queen Rock Montreal and Queen at Wembley.[8][9] Since its release, the song has been covered by a number of artists. The song was played live on 20 April 1992 during The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, performed by Robert Plant with Queen.[10] The style of the song was described by author Karl Coryat as rockabilly in his 1999 book titled The Bass Player Book

As reported by Freddie Mercury in Melody Maker, 2 May 1981, he composed "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" on the guitar in just five to ten minutes.[12]

Queen - Hangman - Guitar Play Along With Tabs

Queen - Hangman from Live At Tokyo 1975

This video is guitar play along with on screen guitar tab as opposed to a guitar lesson.

The main riff is based on an A5 D5 C5 chord progression.

Additional Info

Performed live between 1970 and 1973, and even as late as 1976. The official Queen Archivist (Greg Brooks) has stated that no studio recording of Hangman exists in the archives, however a private collector claims that they own a studio recording existing in the form of an acetate.

According to another private collector, who asked Brian about this song in the early 1990s, a letter exists where Brian confirms that Freddie wrote the lyrics and Brian wrote the music.

Freddie Mercury - In My Defence - Guitar Solo Lesson Tutorial

How to play the guitar solo from Freddie Mercury Queen vocalist solo song In My Defence

The video has on screen guitar tablature to make following easier

The solo although sounding like Queen guitarist Brian May is in fact played by Paul Vincent

The song was written by Dave Clark, David Soames and Jeff Daniels for the musical Time. During the musical, Mercury performed the song as a duet with Cliff Richard; this was last time Freddie sang live in concert; his last performance would be Barcelona in 1988 with Montserrat Caballé, but this performance was lip-synced. Recorded as a solo project, it was recorded at Abbey Road in October 1985, about six months after Mr. Bad Guy was released. The producers expected that if Mercury was not satisfied with the final song, they would let him record with the rest of Queen, but Mercury found the final version satisfactory. "In My Defence" was first released on the "Time" LP in 1986. Other versions include '(Ron Nevison Mix)' - released on "The Freddie Mercury Album" and instrumental version (with vocals for the last line) released also on The Solo Collection. The Ron Nevison mix is very similar to the original, but has different bass and drums, while some string parts were added and others were removed. The 2000 Remix is a remastered version of the Ron Nevison mix and has the same instrumentation mixed differently.

The Cross - Power To Love - Guitar Tab - Roger Taylor

Roger Taylor band The Cross - Power To Love from the 1990 album Mad Bad And Dangerous To Know

In this video I play guitar along with the record. The video has on screen guitar tablature to make learning easier.

The song was also performed by Queen and Paul Rogers Live

After finishing Queen's 1989 album The Miracle, Taylor went into the studio with the rest of The Cross for the first time to record Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know. The band composed the opening track "Top Of The World Ma". The rest of the album consisted mainly of individually written songs, except for "Power To Love" which was a joint venture by Macrae, Noone and Moss. Clayton Moss sang lead vocals on his own track "Better Things", and Spike Edney played mandolin on "Final Destination", which was written by Taylor. "Final Destination" was released as a single, as were "Liar" and "Power To Love", the latter being the last single to be released in the UK by the group. "Final Destination" came with a live rendition of Taylor's song "Man On Fire" as a B-side, and "Liar" (Noone) had a brand new track, "In Charge Of My Heart", which was also penned by Taylor. The song based on improvisations by Freddie of 2nd part of the song "Stealin'" - B-Side of "The Miracle (album)". The 12" single and CD of "Liar" also included extended remixes of both "Liar" and "In Charge Of My Heart". The instrumental section at the beginning of "In Charge Of My Heart" was used as the opening to concerts on the accompanying tour. "Closer To You" (Edney) had been planned to be released in America, but the idea was never discussed again. The group having seemingly given up on the UK market, the accompanying tour only included dates in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Ibiza. Unusual for such tours, every song from the new album was played live.

Brian May Vox VBM1 Guitar Amp Review

Brian May Vox VBM1 Guitar Amp Review

PDF Manual : http://www.voxshowroom.com/ct/manuals/VBM1.pdf

The VBM1 is now out of production but can be found on sites like eBay.

Queen guitarist Brian May got his sound from the 'Deacy Amp'  made by John Deacon in the early 70's from a circuit board found in a skip and a 60's hi-fi speaker. Using homemade treble booster and Red Special guitar Brian May was able to create some of the most distinct guitar sounds

The VBM1 is a copy of the Deacy amp with a built in treble booster.

It's a real shame these small but powerful amps are no longer in production

Queen - We Are The Champions - Guitar Play Along with guitar tab on screen

Queen - We Are The Champions guitar play along with on screen guitar tab

Classic track from the 1977 Queen album News Of The World penned by Freddie Mercury in 6/8 time and in the key of E Flat.

There are two Brian May guitar parts. This video obviously just plays one with the lead guitar too.

Written by Freddie Mercury, "We Are the Champions" was built on audience response, with Brian May stating; 'We wanted to get the crowds waving and singing. It’s very unifying and positive'.

Musically, it is based around Mercury's piano part, with Roger Taylor and John Deacon providing a drums and bass guitar backing. May overdubbed some guitar sections, initially subtle, but building to a 'solo' played simultaneously with the last chorus. Mercury employed many jazz chords (major and minor 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th harmonies), and the choruses featured these voiced as 4 and 5-part vocal harmonies. The lead vocal is very demanding and strident (highest point is a C5 both belted and in falsetto), with one of Mercury's most notable performances taking place at the Live Aid concert, at Wembley Stadium, London in 1985.

The single featured "We Will Rock You" as a B-side, and followed the song on the album. The two songs were often played consecutively at the close of Queen concerts, and are customarily played together on radio broadcasts (in album order). Keeping with tradition, it was also used to close the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert with all the show's acts joining in behind the lead vocal of Liza Minnelli.

Hofner CT Club Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar - Review

A quick video featuring the Hofner CT Club Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar

Lovely guitar with a Beatlesque retro look see below for spec

Quality tonewoods, great playing feel, and superb tone.
The Hofner CT Club is a semi-hollow electric guitar that provides warm, full tone and the brightness to make individual notes sing. The CT Club has a spruce top and eye-popping flamed maple back and sides. A strong, set maple neck is carved in a comfortable C shape, so you can play the CT Club guitar all night long. Two Hofner mini humbucker pickups kick out plenty of volume and sparkle, whether you're wowing a jazz crowd or getting a little funky with your wah-wah pedal.

Hofner has a real affinity with the archtop acoustic jazz guitar. From the early '50s, Hofner set standards for archtop design and manufacture with many famous guitar models such as the Senator, President and Golden Hofner, all of which are now collectors' items.

The Hofner tradition is carried forward today with their current range of jazz guitars and the Verythin family of guitar models.

In 1983 Star Licks released tutorial video presented by Brian May explaining how to play some of his most famous guitar licks.

Queen - Mother Love - Guitar Solo Lesson Tutorial with guitar tab

How to play the guitar solo from Mother Love by Queen found on the 1995 album Made In Heaven

In the key of G Minor this Brian May solo has a clean sound with passing notes giving a harmonic minor feel to it

This video lesson has on screen guitar tab to make following the video easier

This was the last song Freddie Mercury recorded. May explained in the Days of our Lives documentary that "Freddie would say 'give me words, I will sing' so there I was writing on scraps of paper these lines of 'Mother Love.' I would give him a line, he would sing it, then sing it again, then sing it again - so we only had three takes of everything. After he'd finished the second verse, he said 'Oh I don't feel too well, I'm going to go home and we'll finish it tomorrow'... and he never did. That was the last time I saw Freddie in the studio."

The final verse was written and sung by Brian May a couple of years after Mercury died in November 1991. (thanks, Kyle - Dallas, TX)

Roger Taylor is a particular admirer of this song. He notes in the Days of our Lives documentary: "I'm hearing the voice (Freddie's voice) getting... weaker. But I mean he still hits all the notes. There's an absolutely spine-chilling note in the middle of "Mother Love" ("out in the city, in the cold world outside, I don't want pity, just a safe place to hide") which is just a great bit of singing."

The lyrics were co-written by Freddie Mercury and Brian May. It is one of the few times in song that Mercury seems to admit his inner pains and struggles of dealing with AIDS ("I'm a man of the world and they say I am strong, but my heart is heavy and my hope is gone") - the other key one being "The Show Must Go On."

The random bursts of sound throughout the song and the strange end sounds are small segments of every Queen track ever recorded sped very fast through a tape machine and mashed together. They combine at the end with samples of Mercury's famous 'deh-doh!' vocal interludes with the crowd from Live at Wembley 1986, the synth intro to "One Vision," and a sample from his very first single, "Goin' Back" in 1972, which he performed vocals on under the pseudonym of Larry Lurex. In the context of the song it is obviously meant to show the cyclical nature of life and death, and a man looking back across the entire spectrum of his life and career.

Queen - It's A Hard Life - Guitar Solo Tutorial Lesson with guitar tab

"It's a Hard Life" is a song by the British rock band Queen, written by lead singer Freddie Mercury. It was featured on their 1984 album The Works, and it was the third single from that album. It reached number 6 in the UK Singles Chart and was their third consecutive Top 10 single from the album. It also reached number 2 in Ireland and number 20 in the Netherlands. It also came 19th on a poll, The Nation's Favourite Queen Song broadcast on ITV on Tuesday 11 November 2014.

Composition

The opening lyric and melody of "It's a Hard Life" is based on the line "Ridi, Pagliaccio, sul tuo amore infranto!" (Laugh, clown, at your broken love!) from "Vesti la giubba", an aria from Ruggiero Leoncavallo's opera Pagliacci.

Musically, the song recreates the feel of "Play the Game" in order to update the story,[1] utilising Mercury's piano playing and the band's characteristic technique of layered harmonies. It is recorded very much with the ethos of earlier Queen albums in that it features 'no synthesizers'. By that time the band had been using synths on record since 1980's The Game and the gesture of returning to the traditional Queen sound was comforting to some fans.

Queen - Man On The Prowl - Guitar Solo Tutorial Lesson with guitar tab

How to play Queen Man On The Prowl Guitar Solo as played by Brian May

Queen - Man On The Prowl - Guitar Cover with guitar tab

Queen Man On The Prowl Guitar Cover with on screen chords and guitar tab

Based on G  C  D chord progression and in the key of G

Following "It's a Hard Life" is "Man on the Prowl", a three-chord rockabilly Mercury composition (similar to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love") in which Mandel plays the piano ending. Note that "Tear It Up", "It's a Hard Life", "Is This The World We Created...?" and this song are free of synthesisers. May played the solo using a Fender Telecaster. This was planned as the fifth and final single from the album, with a provisional release date of 19 November 1984,[6] and promotional copies were indeed pressed (QUEEN 5) and sent out (b/w "Keep Passing the Open Windows"), but the band opted for a Christmas single ("Thank God It's Christmas").
