How to Make Your Own Glass Bottle Neck Guitar Slide

There is quite a lot of methods to make a bottle neck guitar slide. Some using a rope blow torch and a hammer.  Knowing me Id probably end up hurting myself or burning the house down.

In short you need

1. Wine Bottle
2. Wine Bottle Cutter
3. Hot and Cold Water

Sounds pretty safe.

Score the bottle with your cutter. Heat up with hot water run under cold tap. Repeat that and the score line should crack leaving you with a smooth cut needing sanding.

Im going to try this tomorrow.

Ive tried using 2 beer bottles and a wine bottle.

Glass Cutter for £2.99 to score beer bottles then just used hot water and then cold water.
Needed a pipe cutter for the wine bottle which was a lot thicker.

It’s quite a contentious issue to compare both Guitar Rig and Amplitube products. There seems to be two camps those who think Guitar Rig is by far more user friendly and thos who feel Amplitube has the feel of using real amps.

Are using it in a live setting or for recording?

This is an important question as the Amplitube Stomp box boasts being able to programme software without having to look at computer screen unlike the Guitar Rig Kontrol stomp box. This could be a definite advantage in a live setting.

Editing Sounds

Guitar Rig has a drag and drop feature which makes things very easy for selecting amps effects and so on.

Selecting features on Amplitube wasn’t as visual and you’ve got to flick through everything to get what you want.

With Guitar Rig you see your entire rig on the screen whereas with Amplitube you have to flick through everything.

Easy To Install?

Amplitube has many different versions which can be bought as part of the package. They include:

·         Amplitube 3

·         Hendrix (Includes complete Hendrix Discography of Sounds)

·         Metal

·         Ampeg (Bass)

·         X- gear

·         Fender (Includes Every Fender Amp and Effect Pedal Imaginable)

·         Live

All these need a separate installation. But all sounds from each application can be accessed from Amplitube 3.

Which Sounds The Best?

A lot has been discussed on this subject with many opinions. In my opinion Amplitube has the feel of a real amp coming out of my pc speakers. But I tend to lean towards Guitar Rig as my first choice.

If you can afford both have the best of both worlds.

The First Thing About Buying Your First Bass

If you don’t play then don’t spend too much money. Choosing the right bass won’t be easy until after you’ve been playing for a while. Once you have a good year of lessons behind you, you can make wiser choices with your money.

Size

Bass is a large instrument. It can be played with any size hands, but for most everyone it will require some stretching in the beginning that you are not used to. For beginners, it is a little easier starting on a bass that has a smaller neck in terms of thickness. For instance, Ibanez basses have very thin and easy to play necks, where some Fender basses have quite large necks. If your hands are smaller, go with the smaller neck. If you have large hands go with the bigger necks if you prefer.

Tone

The differences among beginner basses under £200 aren't that big.

The pickups play a large role in the sound of the bass. For a wider range of tone, get a bass that has two sets of pickups. There are 2 common pickup styles — P-pickups and J-pickups. They are named after Fender's Precision bass (P) and Jazz bass (J) original pickup designs. The P-pickups look like two offset rectangles - one under each pair of strings. The J-pickups look like a long, thin rectangle. Both have their own unique sound. Also the placement of the pickups affects the tone. A beginning bass with a P-J setup will give you the most tonal variety.

Where was it made?

Most basses are now made in foreign countries. The poorest quality basses seem to come from China, Mexico, Malaysia and Indonesia. The best quality basses seem to come from the U.S.A., Japan and Korea. This is something to which you might pay attention. It is usually clearly marked somewhere on the bass. More and more manufacturers are outsourcing their manufacturing to compete. And, recently the quality gap has been closing. This is less important now.

When you’re a guitar teacher not every student is going to be the next Van Halen.  Each student is a challenge for all sorts of different reasons.

Recently I was asked to teach someone with learning difficulties. The phrase learning difficulties covers a wide area and you can’t categorize everyone with the same label.

The student I had was unable to read well and couldn’t understand chord boxes. Explaining chords was proving difficult. At first I was drawing a blank as to what to do.
